Why Trade Single Stock Futures?

Single stock futures combine the names you already follow with the structural advantages of the futures market — flexibility, capital efficiency, and access that the cash equity market can't match.

Capital-Efficient Exposure

Unlike buying shares outright, futures let you control a position with margin — CME Group designs single stock futures so you can control up to 6x the value of the capital posted, expressing the same view with less cash tied up. Put the capital you would otherwise lock up in shares to work elsewhere, or use it to scale your exposure to the same name.

Around-the-Clock Access

Single stock futures are designed to trade nearly 24 hours a day on CME Globex — while the stock market sleeps — so you can react to earnings, news, and global events on your own schedule.

Financially Settled

Single stock futures are financially settled and expire to the closing price — removing the need to manage physical share delivery while keeping your exposure purely directional.

Go Long or Short With Ease

Take a long or short position without share borrowing, locate, or uptick restrictions. Short even high-demand names that carry borrow fees, or hard-to-borrow names where shares may not be available at all.

Expand Your Toolkit

Beyond directional views, execute advanced spread strategies by isolating single-stock risk without disturbing the rest of your portfolio's broader exposure.

55 Leading U.S. Stocks

Trade futures on the most-followed names in the market — drawn from the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, and Russell 1000 — in a single, capital-efficient futures account.

Single stock futures are cash-settled, removing the need to manage physical share delivery, and providing access during periods that typically offer the potential for higher liquidity throughout the trading day. Single Stock Futures are not suitable for all investors; they are a leveraged product and could be extremely volatile.

Single Stock Futures vs. Stocks & Options

The same underlying companies, three different instruments. Here's how single stock futures compare to trading the shares or the options.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Single Stock Futures

What are single stock futures?

Single stock futures are standardized, financially settled futures contracts that track the price of an individual company's stock — such as NVDA, TSLA, or AAPL — at a set future date. Each CME Group contract represents 100 shares of the underlying stock and trades nearly 24 hours a day on CME Globex. CME Group launched single stock futures on July 27, 2026, and they are available to trade at Optimus now.

Are single stock futures available to trade?

Yes. Single stock futures launched on July 27, 2026 and are available to trade at Optimus now. Open an account or contact our team to get started.

Which stocks will single stock futures cover?

CME Group lists single stock futures on 55 leading U.S. companies drawn from the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, and Russell 1000 — including NVIDIA (NVDA), Tesla (TSLA), Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT), Meta (META), SpaceX (SPCX), and more. The contract list is subject to change.

Will there be micro single stock futures?

Yes. Alongside the 55 standard contracts of 100 shares each, 22 of the names are also available as Micro-sized single stock futures at a 10-share multiplier — about a tenth of the size — with a $0.10 minimum tick and an X-prefixed symbol. The Micro-sized contracts lower the capital required to take a position. All contracts are available to trade at Optimus now.

How do single stock futures differ from buying the stock?

Single stock futures are financially settled, so you never take ownership of the underlying shares. They trade nearly 24 hours a day rather than only during regular market hours, use margin instead of full notional capital, and let you go short without stock-borrow fees or locate requirements. Ordinary dividends are built into the futures price through the basis rather than paid to holders, so there is no dividend to manage and none of the early-exercise dividend risk that options carry.

How are single stock futures different from stock options?

Single stock futures have a linear payout that moves point-for-point with the underlying stock, while options have a non-linear payout shaped by strike price, time decay, and volatility. Single stock futures are financially settled with no early-exercise risk, which can make directional trading simpler than building an equivalent options position.

Can I trade single stock futures with Optimus Futures?

Yes. You can trade CME Group single stock futures at Optimus today. Open an account or contact our team to get approved, funded, and platform-ready, and trade all 55 names in standard or micro size.

Are Single Stock Futures considered Security Futures?

Yes, single stock futures are considered Security Futures and are subject to joint regulation under both securities and futures regulatory frameworks.
